Professional growth journey: Lisa Bloodworth

Photo of Lisa Bloodworth and text that reads "Growing professionally. Lisa Bloodworth. Senior Director of Transition and Support Services." There is also a quote from Lisa that reads “We truly do make a difference in the lives of people. Employment is important, and we see significant life changes with the folks we employ."

For more than 36 years, Lisa Bloodworth has played an important role at GCE, helping individuals with disabilities prepare for, secure and retain meaningful employment.

Lisa began working at GCE in August 1989 as a job coach. Since then, she has earned numerous promotions and now serves as the senior director of transition and support services.

From a young age, Lisa has had a passion for helping people. She began college with plans to become a nurse but quickly switched to social work.

“It was the best move for me because it’s what I’ve been doing ever since,” she said.

Today, Lisa supports both adults and youth with disabilities as they navigate the employment cycle. She is motivated by seeing the positive impact work has on the individuals GCE serves.

“We truly do make a difference in the lives of people. Employment is important, and we see significant life changes with the folks we employ,” she said.

Over her career, she has witnessed the individuals she serves grow, achieve their career goals and reach important life milestones. She says her favorite part of working at GCE is seeing the success achieved by the people GCE serves as they progress throughout their employment journey.

Project SEARCH, a transition to employment program, is just one example of this success. “Seeing these young adults come into the program never being exposed to work or the employment setting, and then seeing what they’re accomplishing and where they end up going in the world of work is very satisfying to me,” she said.

When asked about why she has stayed with GCE for so long, Lisa said, “The mission. Our mission is simple—helping people—and I get a lot of satisfaction out of doing that. That’s what has kept me here. We’re not just helping people; we’ve become family.”
