Being a mission-driven individual, GCE Designs was a natural fit for Mike Craney, general manager of GCE Designs—a new business venture from Global Connections to Employment (GCE) offering custom apparel, embroidery and promotional products nationwide and creating meaningful jobs for people with disabilities in Pensacola, Fla.
“What drew me to GCE Designs was the opportunity to be part of the mission of creating jobs for people with disabilities and neurodivergence,” he said.
Since starting the job in July 2025, Mike has played an instrumental role in getting GCE Designs off the ground. From ordering equipment and working with the construction crew to managing and supporting his team, Mike has fully embraced each responsibility and challenge that has come his way.
Mike’s role with GCE Designs follows a 30-year career spanning a wide array of fields, including marketing, advertising, creative development and more. He has held multiple leadership positions, leading diverse teams, overseeing projects and contributing to the growth of several different companies and organizations. Now, he draws on these skills and experiences to support the launch and operation of GCE Designs.
Mike’s academic background is rooted in business, holding both a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Auburn University. In addition to serving as GCE Designs’ general manager, Mike also currently serves as a business instructor at Pensacola State College.
Though he was born in Hawaii, Mike has spent the majority of his life and career in Pensacola, Fla. He remains an active community member and has served on numerous boards and committees, including: the American Advertising Federation Pensacola Chapter, East Hill Christian School Board of Directors, the Pensacola Catholic High School Advisory Committee, the Escambia County School District – Next Generation Learning Community’s Multimedia Advisory Council, the USO Advisory Committee, Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Krewe of St Patrick and Leadership Pensacola.
Out of all the things that come along with community involvement, plus managing a new and growing business, Mike’s favorite is collaboration. “One of the most rewarding parts of my job is the people I get to work with and see them grow, develop and expand in both their personal and professional skillsets,” he said.
Today, Mike continues to lead his team and manage operations, allowing GCE Designs to serve customers and collaborate with nonprofit groups across the country.
