Theresa Wohlfarth’s journey with Global Connections to Employment (GCE) is a story of perseverance and growth. From starting as a mail clerk and rising through the ranks to become a project manager, Theresa’s dedication and hard work have been inspirational to everyone who knows her.
Growing up, Theresa’s disability caused her to struggle in school. While she completed her high school coursework, her standardized test scores kept her from graduating. She received a certificate of attendance rather than a diploma.
In 2009, Theresa was laid off from her job in the hospitality industry. Theresa seized the opportunity to pursue her dreams of graduating with her diploma. Theresa studied hard, even taking test prep classes at night. She persevered, and after taking her standardized test eight times, Theresa successfully passed and received her high school diploma.
After graduation, a connection with a vocational rehabilitation office launched Theresa’s career on GCE’s Official Mail Center (OMC) contract at Eglin Air Force Base, where she’s worked since 2012.
Her commitment to excellence, coupled with her strong desire to learn and grow, led Theresa to train new team members on the mail route delivery process. Working the window in the mail center taught her additional customer service skills. Her quick learning and understanding of security needs for specified types of mail made her an invaluable asset to the team. Theresa studied diligently and soon mastered the rules and procedures for handling accountable and classified mail.
Theresa was promoted from shift leader to site operations manager, thanks to her exceptional ability to tackle challenges and contribute positively to the team. Her recent promotion to project manager in February of 2025 reflects her growth in handling more complex responsibilities, her strong leadership qualities, and her ability to drive projects and unique contract needs to completion.
“Theresa excelled in every role she took on and continuously showed us she was ready for even more responsibility,” said Brad Jackson, GCE director of operations. “She has worked extremely hard for this position and was ready when the opportunity arose. Theresa continues to go above and beyond to meet the needs of our customers and team members.”
Theresa recalls the encouraging nature of her supervisors and mentors throughout her time with GCE. “I appreciate this job so much,” she said. “The guidance of my leaders gave me the opportunity to transition into a management role.”
Theresa’s achievements at GCE are a powerful reminder that with perseverance and hard work, one can overcome any obstacle.
