Pensacola, Fla. (April 19, 2023) – Global Connections to Employment is the proud recipient of the Captain Edward F. Ney Memorial Award. The recognition is the highest honor given to U.S. Navy food service operations in recognition of service excellence.
The GCE food services team at Naval Station Newport Rhode Island has received 11 five-star accreditations and won the Ney Award in 2023.
The galleys honored with the Ney must achieve a five-star rating from the Navy evaluation team during an annual evaluation. Most galleys score a three-star accreditation, but five-star recipients can be nominated for the Ney Award. The award is designed to improve food services by encouraging competition among food service operations. It was named for the Navy captain who served as the head of the Subsistence Division of the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts from 1940 to 1945.
GCE also has received a five-star annual accreditation at Naval Air Station Pensacola (Pensacola, FL) every year since 2001 and received the Ney Award in 2010.
“This particular site is where our Team Member of the Year, Antanika Doukkali, works,” said Dwight Davis, president of GCE. “I can’t say enough about this team and the work they do to serve our military men and women. They are an impressive operation and are valued partners among the officers, Navy sailors and others who come through the galley. They really embrace our mission.”
